the boy is SIX!

Posted on Wednesday 22 November 2006

Hi, my name is jeffy and it’s been a long time since my last post.

The boy turned 6 last week and we had a fun time celebrating his birthday. We had a party here at the house with 14 of his little friends (photo after the jump) and it actually wasn’t too bad. Sarah did a great job planning with the games, and my friend Big Brad brought a jump house over. The jump house was a life saver…we had one group in the house playing a game and the other group out jumping. It was a lovely day, so it worked out great.

I went to help out in the boy’s class a couple of weeks ago. They had music class and art class that day and I got to go to both. In music class, they sang a song about the snow falling down and the rain falling down, and they motions and movements with the song. I watched them all sing, (especially the boy) and almost started crying. The wonderful innocence in their faces, and the beauty of children at that age, was frankly overwhelming. The boy wasn’t paying any attention to me, so I really was able to watch him without him noticing. I know all parents think their children are the most beautiful in the entire world, but wow! I thought my heart would explode.

It makes me aware of the blessing I have had being able to stay home with my children the last 6 years. I have had experiences and a relationship with my kids that most dads don’t have. It has been my blessing to be the person that gets to see my children have most of their firsts. Many parents don’t get that opportunity and I feel bad for them. It falls on daycare providers to be the one to experience many of the firsts for a lot of kids and it isn’t as special to them as it is their parents, and I find that a little heartbreaking.

My hope is that this time early in my childrens life will continue to pay off when they become teens. My prayers are that they will trust and honor the relationship that we have now and that will help them make better decisions when they are faced with the tough ones. They won’t always make the right ones, but when they do experience the pain of wrong decisions, that they understand the unconditional love and discipline they have recieved at home and feel free to talk to Sarah and I when they do.

Here is my handsome, beautiful boy whom I love.
