Most annoying song in the world…EVER!

Posted on Thursday 13 July 2006

I was reading Andrew Careaga’s blog today, and he was taking a meme about music. One of the questions was “most annoying song in the world”. His was Terry Jack’s “Season’s in the Sun”, “After the Lovin” by Englebert Humperdink and “Escape (the Pina Colada Song) by Rupert Holmes. It brought to mind the most annoying songs ever for me. There are a few…”Boot Scootin’ Boogie” by Brooks and Dunn, “Grandma Got Ran Over By a Reindeer” by Elmo and Patsy. (sense a theme… *country*) and, ahem…HEY MACARENA!

I think the worst song for me would be a two-fer. The Dolly Parton/Whiney Houston bifecta of “I Will Always Love You”. The original came out my senior year of high school. From Dolly’s movie “Best Little Whorehouse In Tejas”. Every day for two months at 9 am during drafting class, that song came on the radio. You could physically feel the life get sucked out of the room. I even heard the drafting teacher mutter “oh god” a couple of times. We had a sing-along with it one day and the Latin teacher came in from across the hall wondering what the wailing was about. Whiney’s version is just as bad.

Every time I hear either version of this song, a little part of me dies.

Chee-Z Ryder…

Posted on Wednesday 5 July 2006

Here is a pic of the bike I am working on for my friend Sean at work. It’s one of the dumpster treasures. It will be flat black with red rims. I had to move the bars back a bit…they were a bit of a stretch for me to turn with. It’s still fun to ride around though.

wedding bells…

Posted on Wednesday 28 June 2006

We have a growing twenty-something crowd at our church, and lately a lot of them have been getting hitched.

This last weekend, we had the honor of attending our worship pastor’s wedding with the boy being ring bearer. I was so proud of him. He looked all growed up in his big-boy suit and behaved rather excellently. He only waved at people twice througout the ceremony and remained relatively still through the whole thing.

He also has fallen in love… (Continue reading…)

Posted on Friday 16 June 2006

I have become less emergent as of late. I possessed both a Kimball AND a Crowder. And now I am lacking both. For those of you who don’t know…

this is a Kimball…

Precious Memories?

Posted on Friday 9 June 2006

We have a video loop that runs constantly at work. In the loop is a song advertising Alan Jackson’s new album *Precious Memories*, a collection of old gospel hymns. The song on the loop is *I’ll Fly Away*. Everytime it comes on, I can’t help but sing harmony with it.

I grew up in the Southern Baptist church in Mid-Missouri. There are not many fond memories from that time, (Continue reading…)

666 - Hey Bud, Let’s Party!

Posted on Tuesday 6 June 2006

I guess this is the day that all *christians* (i.e. fundy’s and whacko’s) fear the most: 06/06/06=666. I guess I’m not too concerned with it because I think it would be a
great time to have a *mock the devil* party…or any kinda party for that matter.

On one of the Kustom bike sites I frequent (Continue reading…)

My newest crush!

Posted on Tuesday 30 May 2006

I have a new blogcrush…His name is Milton Brasher-Cunningham

He is a cook and a church worker in the Boston area. He writes about people and food with the same amount of passion. He pulls some of the most interesting quotes from everywhere. His writing makes me nod and smile. Go check him out.

Here is a poem from Stanley Kunitz that he had on his blog. Stanley was twice the Poet Laureate of the United States. Mr. Kunitz poem and Milton’s thoughts on the poem really touched me. I would like to share the poem with you. You should go to Milton’s blog and check out his thoughts too.

Fences Make Good Neighbors??

Posted on Tuesday 30 May 2006

I recently finished replacing the fence on the south and west portions of my house. Both my neighbors helped me in putting up the fence. I didn’t know Mike (backyard neighbor) before I started the fence and Bill, my next-door neighbor and I have done some projects together.

I have read in a couple of books how suburban USAmerica has lost it’s *front porch* (Continue reading…)

SCORE!!

Posted on Friday 26 May 2006

Two weekends ago our HOA (Home Owners Association) had a dumpster day. They bring in roll-off dumpsters and everyone brings their crap that has been collecting for a year in their backyards and basements. I was thinking…”it’d be cool to get a couple of bikes for parts and junk” and then this guy brought out two red beach cruisers. They both had flat tires and are slightly rusty (surface rust mainly), (Continue reading…)
